Purification Heritage Center is a sanctuary of time and space in rural eastern Georgia where groups and individuals are invited to contemplate, reflect, and encounter the Lord in a peaceful and sacred setting.
Encompassing historic Locust Grove Cemetery, The Church of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Heritage Preserve Retreat Center, Purification Heritage Center provides a welcoming environment to seek, find, and renew faith through beauty, peace, and historical connection.
I invite all the faithful...to make this place, the first Catholic settlement (1790) in this land, a place of pilgrimage and prayer.
Most Reverend Gregory J. Hartmayer, Archbishop of Atlanta
Purification Heritage Center is revitalizing a community of faith and restoring the first Catholic settlement in Georgia into an entire Historic Catholic District. We need your help to restore the soul by restoring the place.
We have a unique opportunity to restore and relocate an original structure across from the Church of the Purification to be repurposed as a Historic Welcome Center.
Plans include a reception area, a museum, and a restroom for visitors.
